Investment As Mission

We are now seeing the emergence of “mission-related” or “impact” investment, which takes positive screening a step further. This is not just about making money ethically, but about investing as much to promote a particular scheme or practice as for the sake of making money. Supporters of this approach insist that the two aims need not be in tension.

Examples include community land and reinvestment trusts, ecological building projects, organic food and Fairtrade initiatives, and microcredit-based social development programmes.
